Liquor licenses are granted by the Village President/Liquor Commissioner with concurrence of the Board of Trustees. There are several classifications which are dependent on the capacity and type of establishment. Licenses are granted to a specific entity at a specific location and must be renewed annually. Licenses are valid May 1 through April 30 of the next year. A Liquor License is a privilege not a right, and cannot be sold, transferred nor pro-rated.
Those wishing to apply for a liquor license must complete an application, provide proof of ownership or a long term lease for the premises, as well as corporate papers/charter or partnership agreement and dram shop (liquor liability) insurance of not less than $500,000. The charge for an initial application is $250, which will be applied to the cost of the license should it be approved. A full background check will be performed.
The majority of the Liquor License regulations are contained in Chapter 4 of the Libertyville Municipal Code. However, because the code is updated only twice each year, recent changes to the liquor regulations may not be reflected in Chapter 4. Interested parties should contact the Mayor’s office.
