March 31, 2008-The Village has directed its consulting engineer to re-file a quiet zone application for the Milwaukee District North line railroad, including crossings in the villages of Libertyville and Grayslake. A previously approved quiet zone for this section of railroad was abruptly terminated just prior to implementation in December 2007 due to Metra’s concern with the lack of certain equipment at the St. Mary’s Road crossing. Unfortunately, that crossing will not be able to be included in re-filing the quiet zone application. However, the Village is currently working with Congressman Mark Kirk’s office in an attempt to obtain funding for the Constant Warning Time (CWT) equipment which costs approximately $250,000 - $300,000. The Village anticipates the St. Mary’s Road will be included in the quiet zone at a later date when the CWT equipment is installed.
